OINP - NEW INFORMATION!

In recent news, it was announced that Ontario will move the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program from a first-come, first-served system to an expression of interest system.

Express Your Interest in the OINP!

The implementation of an expression of interest system is based on the Comprehensive Ranking System that was designed originally for use with the Express Entry programs to Canada. It will allow the province to target candidates with the most needed skills.

The new system will also allow the province to streamline the selection process and ensure that everyone who may be valuable to the province gets a chance to be reviewed. In the past, the system was based on a first come first served system that was fraught with issues. The pool would open for a few short hours while candidates and immigration professionals would frantically attempt to get a spot before the pool either crashed or closed.

The expression of interest system allows provinces to dramatically improve the selection process. The new system will be used for 5 streams of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) and will assist the province in finding and selecting skilled foreign workers who fill clear labour shortages or who meet the needs of specific areas of the provincial economy.

The new system will be associated with the following 5 major provincial streams of immigration:

  • Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker

  • Employer Job Offer: International Student

  • Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills

  • Masters Graduate stream

  • PhD Graduate stream

The streams that are currently closed are set to reopen this spring. When this happens, be sure to check the specific requirements of each stream to ensure that you are eligible and that you have a complete set of documents that allow you to make a profile with the OINP.
